Informal portrait of 3133 Corporal James Coull, in charge, with dogs of No. 3 Messenger Dog Section, attached to the 4th Divisional Signal Company, in a railway cutting near Villers-Bretonneux while operating with 12th Brigade. Section comprised sixteen men and fifty messenger dogs. These dogs worked with fairly successful results, but were never solely relied on in sending messages. Left to right: War Dog 103 Nell, a Cross Setter; 102 Trick, a Collie; 101 Buller (sometimes referred to as Bullet), an Airedale. All three dogs were very efficient in message carrying and saw service with the 2nd, 4th and 5th Australian Divisions, also with Divisions of the British 8th Corps (Imperial). 102 Trick was particularly efficient and was well known by all Brigades of abovenamed Divisions. He was specially mentioned by Signal Officer of 2nd Division for good work at Rubimont, near Heilly.

Cpl. Ashley A. Entrikin, patrol and explosive dog handler, Military Police, I Marine Headquarters Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force (FWD), bonds with her dog, Hugo, at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan. Entrikin and Hugo have been together for a year and make up the only military working dog team in Afghanistan that includes a female dog handler. Entrikin, originally from Rich Hill, Mo, says that she and Hugo are loyal to each other. Both of them have goofy attitudes, which makes work more fun.

Biographical note: In the summer of 1939, Works Projects Administration (WPA) photographer and artist Charles C. Foster was assigned to take photographs for Florida Writers Project (FWP) writer Veronica Huss’ profile of the "Conchs" (Bahamian immigrants) of Riviera Beach. Armed with his Reflex-Korelle single-lens camera and four rolls of 12 exposure black and white film, Foster spent the day photographing Veronica and her subjects – immigrants from the Bahamas, who were derisively referred by locals as "Conchs". While the book was never published, the WPA’s Florida Art Project used the images for a traveling exhibit titled "Conch Town" that toured the nation between 1939 and 1943.
